They’re Okay: Messages from Dogs in Spirit

October mornings are unlike any other. Fog lingers over the golden trees, gently hugging them and then magically making them disappear. When going out for a morning walk, the low billowing clouds feel so close you can practically touch them.

This season has a beautiful way of reconnecting us with the earth. It also is a time when many believe that the veil is thinner between here and the other side. Like the fog and reaching out your hand – like you can feel it, touch it and sense it in your body.

In honor of this time of memory and connection, I’ve been thinking about animals that we’ve loved and that have crossed over. They have unique ways of showing their love and being with us, even though we can’t see them anymore.

I’ve connected with several dogs in spirit over this last year. Each one shares something special about their spiritual journey: a feeling, a memory and oftentimes images. While their experiences and memories may be different, they all provide reassurance to their families. They are okay.

Grace: Joy That Still Runs Beside Us

When Grace came through, her presence was strong. I could sense her loyal, watchful, playful all at once. She carried herself with the kind of confidence that only comes from great love.

She shared two special memories. One image appeared: her human mom leaning down to rub Grace’s ears. Next, I saw them outside playing fetch together. I sensed this was how they had bonded — through movement and play. They loved the simple joy of being outside together.

When I asked if she will send signs, Grace showed me tree sticks. This was her way of reminding her mom they’re still connected through their playful times. That same joy is alive on the other side.

Peppy Mocha: Surrounded by Love

Peppy Mocha’s energy felt softer and soothing. Loyal and devoted, she had been a steady presence through all seasons of her human’s life.

As soon as I connected, I sensed her warmth and a protective tenderness that hadn’t gone away. Then I felt another energy beside her — maternal, wrapping around her like an arm. It felt like a grandmother or mother figure, comforting her, holding her in love.

There was no fear in her passing, just understanding. Her mission here was complete. Now, she rests surrounded by a nurturing presence. When I saw her curled up peacefully, I knew she wanted her mom to feel that too. This was Peppy Mocha’s way of sharing she’s safe and content, right where she belongs.

Tippy: The Joy of Childhood Lives On

When connecting with Tippy, I felt a wave of nostalgia, the kind that tugs at something in your chest. It was like a cinematic movie, as though childhood itself had come back for a visit.

I could vividly see memories of him running outside. I felt the laughter and my heart swelled at the joy of being loved by an animal. He gave me a giggly feeling, like he was trying to make everyone smile again.

I saw an image of him being petted by a man on the other side, a loving male companion. His message was clear and full of gratitude to his family: “You made life really fun for me.”

How it Feels to Connect With Animals in Spirit

Many people ask what it’s like to connect with an animal who has passed away. Sometimes it’s an image or a memory, other times a physical sensation or a wave of emotion that is sent by the animal.

The animal’s energy always feels peaceful. Our animals want us to know they’re not lost. Their love simply shifts into another form. We can still feel in small, everyday ways.

When you sense their presence, or something reminds you of them — a sound, a smell, a found stick on your walk…  it’s often their way of saying hello.

Every time I talk with an animal who’s crossed over, I’m reminded that love never stops moving and growing. It is in a different form, one we feel more than see.

Maybe that’s what this season teaches us. The fog, the falling leaves, the earth letting go — it’s all a kind of reminder. Our animals, too, are part of that same rhythm. They return to us in small ways: a sudden memory or a found stick. Even that warm feeling that rises out of nowhere.

These are all little whispers from the other side saying, I’m still with you.
